spring cleaning your life

Since it is now spring in the northern hemisphere, it’s time we tackle some all-important spring cleaning! Here are my tips for making the most of this new season.

Physically clean your home.

Whether you’re in an apartment, house, or a dorm room, you thrive in a clean, orderly space. Make sure to dust, sweep up and reorganize. Try incorporating mirrors to brighten up the space and repaint any old outdated furniture to give it new life.

Clean up your schedule.

How many of you have committed to two different plans happening at the same time? Planning is suchhhhh an important life skill. There are a number of ways to accomplish this. There’s the old fashioned pen to paper way, through an adorable planner. There is also Google calendar which can sync with your phone and send you push notifications. Start logging EVERYTHING – hair appointments, dinners with friends, birthdays. It will keep you on track and on top of things!

Do some major closet cleanup.

Get rid of everything you haven’t worn in 6 months. I’m serious. You’ll be surprised how many things we cling to thinking that “maybe” it could work for XYZ but we never actually wear it. There are also those jeans you *swear* you’ll fit into once you diet – SELL THEM. Buy jeans you look bomb in just the way you are. Plato’s Closet is a great option for selling old clothes but there are probably local places that will give you more cash.

And for that matter, your makeup.

All makeup has an expiration date on the bottom, so please throw away anything that is expired, old, or that you just don’t use. Can we talk about how much bacteria you’re putting on your face if you don’t replace your makeup every few months?! Reminder: Clean your brushes!!!

Do a social media cleanse.

Delete inappropriate posts or things you’d rather the world not see, even if you’re private. A good rule is that if you wouldn’t want your grandmother seeing it, it shouldn’t be posted. This is oh so important for those of you in college trying to get internships and jobs! Also, unfollow or unfriend any negative people – who cares what they’re doing?! Not you.

Clean up your finances.

Take a cold hard look at where your money is going. Mint is a great app that tracks subscriptions and spending areas. Do you really need all that takeout? Also, start saving – I mean it. $5 here and there will add up in the long run.

Start eating clean.

We all love junk food, but with summer quickly approaching, your body will thank you for feeding it healthy foods. (And you’ll be mad at yourself if you didn’t try to get your summer bod ready)

What are you doing in terms of spring cleaning?!

  1. I like how you extend spring cleaning beyond just your home. It’s important to look at all areas! Which reminds me, I need to get to it. Thanks!
