Keeping Resolutions Alive + $750 Amazon Giveaway

It’s the third day of 2018, and I have a feeling you’ve “resolved” to do something (or many things) differently this year. Maybe you’re hitting the gym more and finally losing those 10 pounds you’ve been hanging on to from freshman year. Maybe you are trying to be more productive at work or school. Maybe you’re trying to wake up and make your bed every morning. No matter what your resolution is, I intend for you to stick to it, and that’s easier said than done.

Make Your Resolution a Habit

Apparently it only takes 21 days to make something a habit, and once those 3 weeks pass, your brain is more intrinsically motivated t0 partake in the activity. Stick out those 21 days. Download an app to track your daily progress – I love visualizing things – like Coach.me or Momentum.  Seeing the progress you’ve made will make you less likely to stop, and more likely to pass that 21 day mark.

Tell Your Friends and Family

A lot of people keep their resolutions to themselves because they’re working on themselves and don’t feel the need to involve anyone else. I totally get that, but I believe you’re more likely to stick to your resolutions if other people know them. Not only are they keeping you accountable, you may feel more pressure to stay on track! It’s also nice for those close to you to know what’s up if you’re having a rough day with your resolution and need to talk – you’re more likely to pick up the phone and call someone who understands the situation.

Allow Yourself a Bad Day

We are human and inherently flawed. Making a mistake is normal. Don’t beat yourself up if you were too tired after a late meeting to hit the gym, or forgot completely about making the bed when you woke up late. What matters is how you recover from a setback. Get up the next morning and make sure to complete whatever it is that you failed to do the day before.

Good luck with your resolutions this year!

  1. These are great tips – especially the first. Those first 21 days of trying to form a habit can be so hard though but you just gotta push through!

  2. Those apps sound like they’ll be super useful, i usuAlly only last a couple of weeks with my resolutions before i fail haha!
