Styling a Chambray Shirt + Summer Dress

One of my favorite pieces to layer in summer is a chambray shirt. Summertime, especially in Chicago along Lake Michigan, is a rollercoaster of temperatures and weather patterns. One second it’s sunny and hot, the next it’s windy and a bit chilly. The beauty of the chambray shirt is that it can easily go along with you and help you adjust to the ever-changing weather.

If it’s warm during the day, you can put it in your bag or tie it around your waist. When it starts to get overcast or windy, break it out. I even like buttoning it all the way up to give the illusion of a separate top and skirt!

I tie the bottom to make it a bit more casual and also just for comfort’s sake.

I finished this look up with some fun accessories, like this amazing straw bag that is a summer staple. It’s fully lined and has a zippable pocket on the side to store anything that you need secure. I also like that you can wear it either as a crossbody or tuck the big strap in and hold it by the smaller straps.
