be mine, galentine

Thanks to fate, I’ve never had a valentine on February 14. Whether it was the guy I was seeing going out of town, my date to a fraternity’s date function getting sick an hour before the event (LOL), or the classic “being on a break,” Valentine’s Day has never been what all the TV commercials make it out to be. This year is no different. Fortunately enough for you, this has made me into a master of Galentine’s Day.

If you’re not a fan of Parks and Rec, let me inform you that Galentine’s Day is spending the day before Valentine’s with your girlfriends celebrating one another and your unconditional love. Uteruses before duderuses, right?! S/O to the Lala for this amazing cake (it’s another Parks and Rec joke, and if you aren’t familiar, I strongly suggest you start binge watching it).

Every year since I can remember, I have spent G Day with my single friends, my friends in long distance relationships, and the friends who found themselves in “my love life is a joke” situations like I have. After talking with them, I’ve compiled our favorite Galentine’s activities so that you and your gal pals can have as wonderful of a G Day as us!

Watch a rom com

Whether it’s on the big screen with popcorn or on Netflix with wine, this is the classic go-to girl hangout. Nothing says bonding like crying over a Nicholas Sparks movie. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Have a sleepover

Revamp this middle school hangout into a girls’ night in with all your friends. Bake cookies, do each other’s nails, take Cosmo quizzes, watch viral videos, try out tape contouring, etc. Whatever your little hearts desire, do it, and you’ll be laughing all night. Best part about this? Brunch in the morning.

Get makeovers

There’s no better way to spend a day with your girls than getting pampered! Get mani/pedis, redo your hair, and have a professional apply your makeup. You’ll get some great Instagrams out of it! I’ve found this is especially therapeutic if anyone in your group has recently ended a relationship. It’s an amazing self confidence boost!

Go to Hooters

I never thought I would advise this to a group of girls buuuut this year, you can apparently bring a picture of your ex to cut up and it gets you free wings. I see nothing wrong in any part of this. Dare I say it, go to Hooters, and use the failed relationship for your own benefit.

Go out

Have a night out on the town with your favorite ladies in tow. You’ll have so much fun getting dressed up and dancing to your songs. Who knows, maybe you’ll meet someone cute on the dance floor!

Retail therapy

If you don’t have a cute guy on your arm, at least you can have a cute bag. So many sales are going on right now that you are sure to score a bargain!

Road trip

Get out of town and explore! Even if it’s just a day trip, jump in the car and hit the road. It’ll clear your mind and give you a break from everyday life. Make sure you make a good playlist to pass the time!

Enjoy your Valentine’s Day weekend with those you love!

xoxo
