NYFW Fall & Winter 2018 Coverage
My second New York Fashion Week was even better than the first! This time, I was able to see the fall and winter collections that will be all the rage later on this year. I was excited to see some of my favorite trends from this winter sticking around as well as some fun new additions that I am looking forward to putting in my closet!
Alice + Olivia

Alice + Olivia’s new ready to wear collection had a collegiate twist that I was here for. I loved the bold prints and new takes on classics. Not sure if I can pull off some of the print mixing that the collection’s presentation featured, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the amount of monochrome looks. I think that will definitely be a big trend this fall, especially to offset the embellishment that seemingly every piece of clothing available has.
Major Trends: over the knee boots, clothing sets, moto jackets, embellishment, fringe, monochrome, boardroom inspired pieces
Brian Wood
I got some major 80s vibes from Brian Wood’s collection and after falling in love with the Cardi B and Bruno Mars’ “Finesse” video, I wasn’t mad!! I especially liked how there were patches on a lot of pieces which reminds me of shows like Saved By the Bell.
Major Trends: patches, pattern mixing, collegiate inspired pieces, over the knee boots
Dan Liu

[/su_column][/su_row]
Dan Liu’s new collection was giving me all the retro Jackie O and Grace Kelly vibes. I felt like I was on a car driving through the cliffs in Monaco with a head scarf on! Hair accessories have been a recent obsession of mine and it was awesome to see that validated through this runway show. Though Dan Liu’s collection is not the most edgy or controversial, I absolutely loved it because it was my style and I could see myself wearing it all.
Major Trends: head scarves, retro dresses, trench coats, feminine colors
Gemma Hoi

[/su_column] [su_column size=”1/2″ center=”no” class=””]
[/su_column][/su_row]
Gemma Hoi was inspired by the 1940s and women during the WWII era. This was seen through the classic denim and aviator accents in all the looks. I really liked the modernized renditions through ponchos, scarves and hair accessories.
Major Trends: denim, shirt dresses, off the shoulder
Kate Spade

[/su_column] [su_column size=”1/2″ center=”no” class=””]
[/su_column][/su_row]
This is Debora Lloyd’s last collection for Kate Spade and I think she went out with a bang. I loved how every piece felt attainable and realistic, these two looks especially. It’s refreshing to see a piece of yourself during a runway show or presentation, and that’s exactly how I felt seeing this one. There was a lot of layering and again some scarves being thrown in, which we should know by now I love. The spade baseball caps were a cute touch. May have to get one!
Major Trends: faux fur coats, layering, baseball caps, patterned scarves, rich colors
Pamella Roland
[su_row][su_column size=”1/2″ center=”no” class=””]
[/su_column] [su_column size=”1/2″ center=”no” class=””]
[/su_column][/su_row]
Pamella Roland’s collection was extra and I was a fan. The fur, the embellishment, the overlays – not sure if I could pull half of it off but it sure is pretty. I loved how she had a lace bustier underneath a blazer with slacks, this has been done before but the bustier was oh so cute and I was for the first time convinced I could try that out.
Major Trends: over the knee boots, lace and mesh inserts, embellishment, boardroom inspired pieces
Rebecca Taylor
[su_row][su_column size=”1/2″ center=”no” class=””]
[/su_column] [su_column size=”1/2″ center=”no” class=””]
[/su_column][/su_row]
This collection gets infinite brownie points because I got to play with AR on a smartphone while viewing the presentation. See it here! I already loved Rebecca Taylor but this fall/winter collection is just me to a T. I love all the velvet and fun patterns, this is definitely going to be in my wardrobe for fall!
Major Trends: mixing patterns, boardroom inspired pieces, velvet, animal prints, metallics, graphic tees
By Sonia Olla

[/su_column] [su_column size=”1/2″ center=”no” class=””]
[/su_column][/su_row]
By Sonia Olla started out with a flamenco performance by the designer herself. It set the mood for a modernized Spanish collection that I fell in love with. I could see that she was inspired by her Spanish culture, like the jackets that remind me of matador jackets and traditional hats. I overall LOVED this collection and would wear it on the reg if I lived in Europe.
Major Trends: hats, capes, embellished jackets, primary colors
Tadashi Shoji
[su_row][su_column size=”1/2″ center=”no” class=””]
[/su_column] [su_column size=”1/2″ center=”no” class=””]
[/su_column][/su_row]
Tadashi Shoji was my first show of this FW and it started the week off well! I love evening wear and fell in love with many of these beauties. I liked the inclusion of lace and other inserts as well as bling, obvs. This striped green dress with lace detail may be my favorite just because it’s so different.
Major Trends: lace inserts, embellishments, ruffles, bling, off the shoulder
Yajun
[su_row][su_column size=”1/2″ center=”no” class=””]
[/su_column] [su_column size=”1/2″ center=”no” class=””]
[/su_column][/su_row]
I had just finished up Altered Carbon before FW and I felt like this collection could have been the costumes for the actors in that series! It had a futuristic and even intergalactic look while sticking to a minimal color palette.
Major Trends: monochromatic looks. high neck lines, layering
